James R. Phillips

James R. Phillips, Sr. 79 of Shalersville died Sunday, November 1, 2015. He was born April 24, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio to Edward J. and Madeline (Flask) Phillips. Formerly of Youngstown, he has lived in Shalersville since 1973 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna. For many years he was a musician with the Rocky Chirchiglia Band, taught guitar at Chirchiglia Music Shop and  was a skilled woodworker for "Trimmers" by Maryann. James retired from A. L. Ryan & Son in Youngstown where he was a commercial floorcovering installer. Survivors include his wife Sandra (Luedtke), daughters Kim Beranek of Columbus, Ohio and Melodee Bowden of Mantua, sons James (Anna Maria) Jr. of Parker, Colorado, Paul (Angie) of Bronson, FL, Shawn Weideman and Shayn (Janet) Weideman both of Ravenna and Brad (Jackie) Weideman of Stow, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a sister Marilyn Futkos of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruthie VanDervort and Dorothy DiNunzio and a brother Edward Phillips. Cremation has taken place. Calling hours will be from 5 PM to time of memorial service at 6 PM on on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 170 N. Freedom Street, Ravenna, Ohio with Pastor Dan J. Caruso officiating. The family request you dress casual for the services. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
