Jane Palmstrom Obituary

Jane (Robertson) Palmstrom 1923-2022 Jane (Robertson) Palmstrom passed away on May 8, 2022, after a brief illness. She was born May 13,1923 to Walter and Helen (Goodell) Robertson. In 1941, Jane met her future husband Dave at Middlebury College. She transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and completed her RN before she and Dave were married in June 1947. From 1947 to 1949, she had a short career as a nurse while Dave completed medical school. in 1952, Jane and Dave chose to settle in Ravenna, where she was not only a stay at home mom, but also became more and more involved in her community. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Ravenna. As a community member she was active in Friendship House and the Well-Baby Clinic; A.F.S.; the Portage County Aids Task Force; and was a Co-Founder of Habitat for Humanity of Portage County. Over the years, Jane was honored many times for her community efforts. One of her greatest pleasures was being in the garden or green house, and caring for the environment. She also enjoyed reading, knitting (donating many items to the Portage County Clothing Center) and spending summers at Sandy Lake. Throughout her life Jane had many pets who brought her great joy. Jane is survived by her daughters, Linda of San Francisco; Margaret Reese of Willowick Ohio; Mary of Ravenna; and Nancy (Lisa Haddock) of Ringwood, NJ; grandchildren, Susan Tussing of Omaha NE and Andy Tussing of Streetsboro OH, dear friends Tom Svoboda and Arlyce Deeter, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Helen Robertson; husband David; son John; her sister Beverly Heisler Semegen; son-in-law Paul Reese and granddaughter-in-law Dianne Tussing. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Friday May 13, 2022 at 1:30 pm at the First Congregational Church in Ravenna, 266 S. Chestnut St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266, with the Reverend Jerry Kruse officiating. The family will receive condolences in the Scott Room at the church immediately following the service. Due to Covid risks, the family would appreciate masks being worn for all in attendance. In lieu of flowers, Jane’s family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Portage County, The Center of Hope in Ravenna or to the First Congregational Church in Ravenna.
