Michael A. Montecalvo, 92, passed peacefully into the arms of his savior, Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Michael was born in Houston, PA to Anthony and Bertha (Rodensky) Montecalvo on January 12, 1931. His family moved to Akron in the mid 1940’s and he graduated from North High School in 1949. While attending North High School, Michael met his future wife, Eleanor Lann. They were married 65 years before she preceded him to heaven. Michael proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, aboard the aircraft carrier the Coral Sea. He was a member of the Squadron VC 9, flying the AJ Savage on multiple dangerous, yet successful missions. Michael retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 44 years of service. He was an avid bowler, earning placement and trophies in the Pro-Am tournaments during the 1970’s, and then turned his skills to golf. After age slowed him down on the course, he began to ranger at the Windmill Lakes Golf Club, spending several more years still enjoying the sport.
Michael and Eleanor had six children. Eleanor,an infant son, John, and great granddaughter Evey preceded him in death. He leaves behind daughter Sandra Blazewick, sons Michael (Alfreda), and Jeff (Donna), daughters Jean Smith (Jeff) and Karen Ridenour (Scott). Grandchildren; Stacey Young (Walter), Amy Ditulo(Dennis), Ryan Montecalvo(Waleska), Melissa Montecalvo, (Tim), Jennifer Joseph, (Ronnie) Megan Andrella (Ben), Ashley Moses(Kenny), Nicholas Smith, Madeline Shelman(John), Colton Ridenour, twenty great grandchildren, a brother, Andrew Montecalvo, (Nancy) and numerous extended family.
Calling hours will be 2-5 PM Sunday September 10, 2023 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna.
A mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday September 11, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church, Ravenna, Ohio. Internment will be at Grandview Memorial Park Ravenna, Ohio. Condolences and memories of Michael may be shared with his family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
