Norma Price Obituary

Life is eternal and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon, and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.  - Rossiter W. Raymond

Norma Fay (Keenan) Price, 95, formerly of Hobart, Indiana, died peacefully in her sleep on February 20 2023.  Preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Robert L. Price, she is survived by her two daughters, Sherrie Gaither Keenan (Austin, TX) and Maureen Dawne Mayfield and husband, Charles C. Mayfield (Ravenna, OH), three grandchildren, Kara Bowman (Ravenna, OH), Charles Hearon (Houston, TX), and Douglas Mayfield (Ravenna, OH), great grandchildren, Nikki Bowman-Wilson and Justin Bowman, great-great grandchildren, Luke Thomas Furlong, Jasper Lee Wilson, Arya Rose Wilson, and Nova Kinly Puett. Also numerous nieces and nephews.  She will be remembered for the love, care, and giving she showed to her family, extended family, and to her many friends.  Fay was born April 10, 1927, one of eight children born to Norah and Arvel Gaither in Malden, MO.  She is preceded in death by three of her sisters, Melba Kurmis, Adabell Thompson, Edna Mustain, and two brothers, Arvel Dale Gaither and Marvin Gaither of Cahokia, IL. She is survived by two sisters, Jeanne Chilelli of Phoenix, AZ and Eleanor (Tillie) Duncan of St. Louis, MO.

Fay moved to Gary, Indiana as a young woman during World War II and worked as an assembler at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant before joining Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1952.  She retired from the phone company after 31 years, but remained an active member of the Pioneer Club, a group of retired Bell employees.  Beautiful, vivacious, friendly, and outgoing, Fay never met a stranger; people wanted to be near her to share in her humor and love of life.  She was generous and giving to a fault, and was a devoted and loving mother.  Of her daughters, she said on many occasions that they were “…the loves of her life.”  She was a n active volunteer, and over the years donated more than 7 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.  She became computer-literate in her 70s and maintained online correspondence with family and friends for the rest of her life. In 2009, at age 83, she achieved a life long dream by graduating High School through the Able GED program of Portage County.  In honoring her request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service may be held at a later date.  Condolences and memories of Norma Fay may be shared with her family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
