Rebecca Metzger Obituary

August 30, 1930 – November 24, 2022
Rebecca M. (Rampe) Metzger, 92, of Kidron, OH, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on Thursday November 24, 2022, at her son’s home in Kidron, OH. Rebecca (Becky) was born in Columbus Grove, OH on August 30, 1930, to Edward and Emma (Bockrath) Rampe. She was the youngest of nine children.

Becky was a 1948 graduate of Columbus Grove High School and furthered her education earning her Registered Nurse Diploma from St Rita’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Metzger, on a blind date in 1953 and they were married on June 26, 1954. They established a home and were blessed with 2 daughters and a son before being transferred with Dick’s employment with Buckeye Pipeline to Berea, OH, and then to Ravenna. They moved to Ravenna on November 22, 1963.

Becky remained at home, raising her first three children, (Kathy, Nancy and John) until 1968 when she went back into the nursing field being employed at Robinson Memorial Hospital as the Head Nurse of the Outpatient Clinic that served the indigent population in the county. (Son Jim was born in 1969) She retired in 1988 from the hospital but then worked for 12 years as an office nurse for Dr. Emma Jane Yoho.

Becky was a loving mother who had a strong passion for assisting others and also volunteered her time to various organizations in the Ravenna community including the Center of Hope, Portage Chapter of PERI, Board of Elections and other organizations. Due to her community involvement over several decades she was chosen as the Grand Marshall of the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair in 2003.

Becky was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna from 1963 until 2015 when she moved due to health issues. She was involved in many church ministries teaching CCD classes in the 1960’s, Parent’s club, Parish Council, Bingo, Spaghetti Dinners, Funeral Luncheons, Choir, Our Ladies Guild, Young at Heart and selling those famous “Magic Cloths”.  She took great pride and spent numerous hours working as a charter-member of the “Immaculate Dust-Busters”, a group assembled to ensure the cleanliness of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.

Becky loved her friends in all her Card Clubs and enjoyed being hostess and providing delicious lunches for her friends. She especially loved baking and provided “Blue Ribbon Cookies” and special desserts for all who came to her home.

Becky moved to the Columbus, OH area in 2015 to live closer to daughter Nancy and finally moved to the residence of son John, in Kidron, in 2020. Becky always remained devoted to the Blessed Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, reciting the Holy Rosary on a daily basis. Whether it was attending Mass at Immaculate Conception (Ravenna), The Church of the Resurrection (New Albany) or Saint Agnes (Orrville), Becky’s desire for the Holy Eucharist was an example of her endless desire to seek out Jesus every day of her life. Becky will be missed by all who knew her.

Becky is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Ed) Jordan of Ravenna, Nancy (Mark) King of Westerville, OH, sons John (Diane) of Kidron, OH, and James (Kristin) of Galena, OH. Upon her passing, Becky had twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her sister Elaine Rupert of Celina, OH.

In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard (Dick) Metzger in 1999 along with seven brothers and sisters.
