Robert Carle Rupert, of Ravenna, passed away at age 90 on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was born August 24, 1931 in Jackson Township to the late Carle B. and Vada (Messersmith) Rupert. Robert was a "50 year plus" member of the Ravenna First Congregational Church (UCC). As a youth, Bob achieved the honor of becoming as Eagle Scout. He later enlisted in the US Army and served as Battery Commander of the Nike Missile Base during the Korean War. He served for many years as Executive Director of the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Ravenna Elks Club. Robert was dedicated to volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and instrumental in organizing the Ravenna Balloon-A-Fair. He owned and operated the Jack and Jill Shoppe along with his wife of 70 years, Jo Ann. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann (Franks), children: Deborah Lynn (Dave) Petrone, Bonney Jo (Chris) Walther, Melissa Lee Klinesmith and David Brian (Debbie) Rupert, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister Patricia L, Halby and brother-in-law Varden McAlpine. Calling hours will be from 4 - 6 PM Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 12 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Ravenna First Congregational Church (UCC), 266 S. Chestnut Street in Ravenna with Reverend Jerry Kruse officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Ravenna Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity.
