Robert “Hutch” Murphy, age 75, set sail for paradise October 4, 2025 on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, held in the embraces of his family to the tunes of his favorite country music after a long battle of health complications. Hutch was born May 20,1950 in Detroit, Michigan as the son to late Robert and Phyllis (Ruehl) Murphy and brother to Karen Laubert. He spent majority of his life residing in Ravenna, Ohio where he played football, graduated and met his high school sweetheart. Bonnie (Ellen) was the love of his life with whom he shared 56 beautifully devoted years of marriage and 3 children, his daughters Mindy and Jennifer and son Michael. He also lovingly raised his granddaughter Miranda as his own. Hutch was “Papa” to grandchildren and great grandchildren Morgan, Tanner, Travis, Kenny and Bristol whom he loved immensely. He was the heart and strength of his family, especially to his girls. Hutch was a retiree of the Portage County Engineers Office after 15 years of service working on the road and bridge crew. He also previously served over a decade as a Fireman for the Ravenna Township Fire Department. His heart was happiest outdoors whether working in the garage or around his yard. Hutch deeply loved travel and shared that love through countless adventures and vacations with his family. He particularly loved a beach destination with Bonnie by his side which led them to purchase a seasonal home in Ellenton, Florida where they resided during Ohio winters. Hutch was a HUGE Ohio State fan, avid boater, loved fishing, and was a member of Lakeside Campground for over 20 years. He was a jack of all trades and an amazing woodworker to whom friends and family flocked to fix anything and everything. He showed his love for family and friends through kindness and acts of service whether that be washing your car, cutting your grass or just being the first to offer a helping hand. He loved to make those around him smile and laugh and had a spicy sense of humor that will forever be missed.Hutch was the definition of a life well lived and created deeply treasured memories for those who knew and loved him. We miss you beyond measure Dad, Papa, Hutch, Bob, Roberto, hero, son, brother and friend. You’re passing has left a void that can never be filled. As you would say “This is bullshit”. However, our hearts are at peace knowing you’re on the coast of somewhere beautiful, toes in the sand, a black and mild in hand and open arms waiting for the day we all come home. Survivors include his wife Ellen Y. (McIntrye), children Mindy (Patrick) Crick, Jennifer R. (Craig) Furness, Michael (Colleen) Murphy and Miranda Murphy (Kenneth Joerndt), grandchildren Morgan, Tanner, Travis, Chase and great grandchildren Kenny and Bristol.
