Steven A Meyer

March 7, 1954 — June 22, 2025

Ravenna, Ohio

Steven Allen Meyer, age 71, of Ravenna, Ohio passed away after a short battle with esophageal cancer on Sunday, June 22, 2025. His family was with him surrounding him in love.  Born on a military base at Fort Riley, Kansas, to the late Wayne and Norma Meyer, Steve spent his childhood in Mantua before moving to Kent after high school. Eventually settling in Ravenna with Sally Thompson, his wife of 39 years.

Steve is survived by his wife Sally, son Scott and daughter-in-law Brittany, sister Leanne Doll (Jim), brothers Dave (Kristen), Randy (Janet), and Chris (Beth); sister in law Betty Thompson Heisler, 12 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews.  A proud graduate of Crestwood High School, he played baseball and was a member of the band. He was also a Boys State Delegate. Steve had an appointment to West Point but chose to pursue his education at Kent State University instead. It was during his college years that he worked as a bartender at Filthy McNasty’s Bar in Kent and also worked many concerts at Kent State University. In those days, Steve had the unforgettable opportunity to share drinks with a young Bruce Springsteen, long before he became the legend he is today.  Steve worked at Rotek Incorporated and later with his father at Meyer Maintenance. He returned to Rotek, where he ultimately retired.  Steve liked all sports especially the Cleveland teams, loved golf but his real passion was watching his son Scott play. He helped coach numerous teams that Scott played on. Steve’s commitment to his son’s athletic journey was unwavering - remarkably, he only missed one of Scott’s games/matches from grade school through college. Steve was a proud and devoted dad.  In addition to his love for family and sports, Steve’s generosity extended to giving the gift of sight. As an organ donor, Steve’s decision to donate his organs has given someone the chance to see again.  Steve enjoyed relaxing by the pool, listening to tunes (particularly Jimmy Buffet) and enjoying a cold beer.  Family and Friends are invited to gather for laughter, food and beer at Windmill Golf Club Saturday, June 28 starting at 4 PM.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and nursing aids at Portage University Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Steve.  Please visit www.sscfuneralhomes.com to share a memory, offer a condolence or light a candle.
