Thelma Knipper Obituary

Thelma (Thompson) Knipper has gone to live with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was born March 12, 1923 in Freedom Township to Floyd and Mary (Hunt) Thompson. Thelma lived in Freedom all her life and that is where she met and married her beloved husband of 74 years Robert Knipper. She helped work their farm all her life and loved gardening, flowers, canning garden produce and fruit. She enjoyed raising her children with values and how to show compassion to others. Thelma was known for helping friends and family in need. She served as a room mother at the Freedom School and was on Band Boosters when her kids were in school. She enjoyed going to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their activities. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her son Allen Knipper, her siblings Marshall Thompson, Floyd Thompson, Jr., Ethelyn Thompson Becks and James Thompson and foster daughter Connie Lumbert. She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Karen (Knipper) Martin and her husband Roy Martin, son in law Carl Lumbert, 7 grandchildren Robert Martin, Dan Martin, Nick Knipper, Tom Knipper, Tia Knipper, Christine Lumbert Pitsinger and Carrie Lumbert Simmons, 13 great grandchildren Jessica, Matthew and Troy Martin, Deana, Samantha and Mike Knipper, Destiny, Zachary and Jason Knipper, Brandon and Nathan Pitsinger and Alyssa and Ashley Simmons, 2 great great grand babies Brooklyn and Melody Rose and many loving nieces, nephews and very close friends. A private family burial took place at Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Portage County APL, PO Box 927, Ravenna, Ohio 44266 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Palce, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
