William Dillon Obituary

William “Bill” Dillon 73, of Edinburg, Ohio passed away Monday October 11,2021 at his home. Calling hours will be October 23 from 10:00- 1:00 at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home in Ravenna. Services will follow at 1:00. Bill was born April 17,1948 in Ravenna, Ohio to George and Donna Dillon. He resided in Edinburg his entire life and was very proud of his community. He owned and operated a successful business “Dillon Auto” for 45 years. Bill enjoyed his work and often said “I have the best job in the world, I get to walk outside to my garage and work on cars.” It wasn’t just the work he loved but also the people he met along the way. After work hours he could be found sitting on his front porch talking and laughing with customers and friends. Bill married his wife Patty on August 19, 1972. They had two sons, Matt (Tiffany) and Joe. A big part of their lives was sitting at Bill and Patty’s dinner table discussing sports, cars and countless other topics. It was often referred to as the “round table” and plenty of important conversations took place there. This is where Joe learned his love of cars, Matt learned he didn’t know anything about cars and Bill “Papa” taught his grandkids (Marcus and Makenzie) all kinds of valuable life lessons that they rolled their eyes at, but when they reach age 35 will realize “Papa” was right!  Bill was blessed to grow up with four loving brothers…...Denny, Terry, Tim, Doug.. who nicknamed him Mac. They grew up riding horses together, making their own go-karts and racing them around their self-made track until the late hours of the night. Bill often said “No one had a better childhood than me.” Bill served in the United States Army from March 1968- March 1970. In addition to his brothers, wife, sons, and grandkids Bill is survived by his mother-n-law Wilma Crum, many great sister-n-laws and brother-n-laws, nieces, nephews and friends which he loved very much.  There are countless other things that could be written about Bill, a wonderful husband, a great father, a loving grandpa, the fact he loved driving his 1939 Ford Truck and Trans Am(that him and Joe built), his passion for listening to Elvis Presley music, his enjoyment of hosting pig roasts on his homemade spit, the fun he had at Friday night sporting events, and his enthusiasm for his grandkids……..unfortunately Father Time is undefeated. So in honor of Bill’s admiration for Elvis “BILL DILLON HAS LEFT THE BUILDING”.
