William “Bill” Nickles, age 99, of Rootstown, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday January 10, 2023. He was born December 27, 1923 in Cliftonville, West Virginia to Christ and Susan Nickles. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the retired Teamsters Local #24 in Akron, STAR Masonic Lodge F&Am #187 in Cuyahoga Falls, and the National Rifle Association. He was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the US Marine Corps for four years. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, mowing grass, listening to country music, and camping. He had camped in 49 of the 50 states. He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, his first wife Julianna, and two daughters, Julianna and Susan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra, his daughter, Andrea K (Jim) Nunley of Edinburg; grandson Travis (Danielle) Nunley of Akron, son Daniel L Heasley of Edinburg, and his sister Christina Nickles of Illinois. One of his greatest joys was his grandson, Travis. He attended his baseball and football games regardless of the weather. Just spending time with him made his day brighter. The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice of Green and Cleveland for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00am with a memorial service following at noon.
