Melissa, you and all of Joe's family have shown such strength. I know you don't see that in yourself, but I have witnessed it in the notes you've written and the story you had to tell about your husband.  I watched you, one of my oldest and dearest friends, maintain composure when your eyes filled with sorrow and saw the comfort you undoubtedly have given to your children.  I feel proud to know you.

Feeling that pride made me also feel a deep regret that I never got to know Joe.  Those of us who missed the opportunity to meet such a wonderful husband, father, son, and friend, are thankful to you, Melissa, and to all of his loved ones for giving us a chance to see the amazing person that he was.   That is a testament to your strength and to the love you have for him.

Melissa, your love and his spirit lives on.   He will be by your side and knowing you, I know you will make him proud.   Mourn the loss, celebrate his life and see him in Samantha, Derrick, Jacob and Jonathon, his legacy will indeed survive.

I love you Mel, you and all of Joe's family have my continued prayers for strength, comfort, and peace.
